Kelley's clearly labeled drawings and configurations reinforce the concepts presented, and the watercolor illustrations add dimension to the presentation. Another winning entry to science collections and a great addition for younger readers.

Ages 5-8. Children curious about the International Space Station will learn quite a lot from this informative addition to the Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science series. With construction in space begun in 1998, the long-awaited project will continue for several years, until the million-pound, 350-foot-long station is completed. Branley includes discussion of the parts making up the station, how its systems are powered, how astronauts put together the modules in space and live on board, and what the station will be used for upon completion. Clear writing and excellent diagrams combine to make the basics of this complex program understandable to fairly young children. The presentation of technological material to an interested but unsophisticated audience can be difficult, but Branley and Kelley have shown a good grasp of what to include and what to leave out. Kelley's artwork, evidently ink and watercolor, maintains a fine balance of beauty, clarity, and child appeal. The final page gives instructions for growing crystals, an experiment carried out on the station, and a Web site address for locating the International Space Station in the night sky or just finding further information. Calling all NASA fans! We had this book handy the day the International Space Station was in the news... one of over 150 titles in the "Let's Read-and-Find-Out Science" series that we own and use constantly! Begun in the 1960s, this series is just perfect when you want to explore a specific topic. Books about the different phases of the moon, the ways of ants, ladybugs, gravity, your skeleton.... all kinds of timeless books with timeless information presented in a living way! But what about the books about rockets and sattelites? Boy, are they outdated! That is why I was so delighted with this great new title. Generous oversized format with LOTS of detail.

My 4 year old loves anything to do with space. We have several of the books in this series and are happy with them all. This book covers many aspects of the International Space station from the beginning to some future goals. It talks about the parts of the station and some of the activities that the astronauts complete. I would recommend this book for any child who is interested in space exploration.

In settings as diverse as college education, business, military training, family, and financial planning, happiness has appeared as the object of a new technology of emotional self-optimization. As such, happiness has come to define a new mentality of self-government—or a “governmentality” as the concept is developed in the work of Michel Foucault—one that Sam Binkley demonstrates is aligned closely with economic neoliberalism. Happiness as Enterprise blends theoretical argumentation and empirical description in an engaging and accessible analysis that brings governmentality theory into contact with sociological theories of practice and temporality, particularly in the work of Pierre Bourdieu. This book invites readers not only to consider the new discourse on happiness for its relation to contemporary formations of power, but to rethink many of the assumptions of governmentality theory in a manner sensitive to the mundane practices and everyday agencies of government, and the unique and specific temporalities these practices imply.

La lectura puede ser mala: me he quedado sin galletas por su culpa... :)

Un texto muy técnico y profesional, con devastadora evidencia respecto a que la pandemia de obesidad y el aumento de casos de demencia senil y Alzheimer están vinculadas a quien creíamos un aliado en la alimentación: el trigo. Sea en pan, pastas, galletas o incluso como aditivo en champús o cosméticos, contribuye más de lo que creíamos en inflamar el cerebro -así como los intestinos y las articulaciones-. Y si se asocia su consumo con azúcar y otros carbohidratos refinados, es una combinación mortal.

El mayor efecto de la lectura de este libro fue decidirme, de una vez por todas, a suspender la ingesta de pan y galletas -alimentos que eran básicos para mi- y perderle el miedo a los huevos y ciertos aceites. Si todo marcha bien y me apego al plan de 30 días, creo que veré diferencias importantes. A menos de cinco días de hacerlo, empiezan a notarse cambios fundamentales.

El texto merece cuatro estrellas porque la parte técnica domina la gran mayoría y, si bien no es altamente complejo, tampoco es para un público lego. Incluso con algunos referentes médicos ya conocidos, hubieron partes en que costaron trabajo. También la parte de las recetas podría ser mucho mejor trabajada, así como la presentación del plan de 30 días. Pensé que ocuparía una parte sustancial del texto, y es apenas uno de los diez capítulos.

Aún así, es una lectura muy recomendable y que en verdad puede transformar tu vida. O, al menos, volverte loco con la posibilidad de contraer demencia senil al acabar una dona o tres galletas...

Interesting at the begining, not very helpful for the average economies. Not healthy to read this.

Too repetitive. The diet feels somewhat unreal to follow because, basically if we can't afford the food recommended (the specific oil alternatives, meat from cows fed with grass,etc.) ....we are doomed ...is what I am getting from this book.

And the author goes over and over and over with the death sentence. It would be more than enough to say: 'gluten is bad, this book is not about gluten but I am going to mention it every 4 or 5 pages or less.... ' . Diabetes is bad, sugar is bad, fruit is bad, vegetables are bad, eggs are questionably probably good.... ... ok, we get it. .... What else? It looks like the author spends more chapters than needed trying to convince about what he is probably not very sure either, but that is my perception.

And I haven’t finished the book but I am already feeling sick of it. Before starting this reading I recommend to prepare and have the open mind and mood needed to read a book about the end of the world. I am giving 3 stars because I found kind of informative some of these facts, studies and the very depressing verdict.

Interesante y atrapante. Una buena lectura para entender los efectos que tienen el azúcar y las harinas en nuestra salud. La importancia de las grasas para nuestro cerebro es otro aspecto a destacar. Resulta un poco controversial la propuesta nutricional que plantea al final, ya que la misma la realiza y trata de fundamentar en observaciones propias, se contrapone a los efectos estudiados con procedimientos científicos y válidos en cantidades estadísticamente hablando, en los cuales una dieta alta en grasas animales y proteína animal se relaciona a muchos problemas de salud. Deja afuera, sin tratarlas en el texto, dietas comprobadas como excelentes, incluso para problemas como Alzheimer y Arterioesclerosis múltiple, como lo es la "Plan Based Diet". Tampoco tiene recomendaciones si eres vegetariano o vegano.

About the Author
James Briscione is a chef, author, TV personality, and culinary instructor. He started his culinary career working for Frank Stitt in Birmingham, and at age 24 became the Chef de Cuisine at Stitt's flagship restaurant, Highlands Bar and Grill. James moved to New York, where he worked at the renowned Restaurant Daniel and was the winner of the first season of Food Network's Chopped and the Chopped Champions series. He's the co-author of Just Married & Cooking and is the Director of Culinary Development at the Institute for Culinary Education.

I've already cooked my way through almost half the book and I'm in love with every bit of it

The recipes, the design & photography, Chef James' chef tips & tricks! I've already cooked my way through almost half the book and I'm in love with every bit of it. The "at-home" cooking lesson feel is different (and brilliant) and I can't get enough of the step-by-step photos. A few cherry-picked favorites so far: Spicy Thai-Coconut Chicken Soup, Bananas Foster Banana Bread, Buttermilk Biscuits and the Salted Caramel Brownies. I'm making myself hungry!

Buy this book if you love gorgeous design and solid recipes! My only question- Why isn't the handsome chef's face on any of the pages??

Photos, photos, photos! If you like pictures that show you the ingredients you'll need as well as pictures of the finished dish, you will love this cookbook!

College students should have this cookbook! How do you roast a chicken? How do you grill fish? It's in here and the directions are explicit and easy to follow.

These cooking lessons are designed to turn the novice cook into a competent chef. If you're already a competent chef, variations on the lessons and some of the techniques might interest you.

Each "Today's Lesson Master Lesson" is preceded by a double-page spread photo of your "mise en place," or your "set up:" the ingredients you'll be needing for that recipe.

All of the classic recipes are here, including chicken stock, chili, meat loaf, coq au vin, pork medallions, lamb chops, steamed mussels, sauteed shrimp, salads and vegetables, mac and cheese, muffins, banana bread, brownies, pies, cakes, souffles and many more.

Tips and techniques include: how to hold a knife, how to chop garlic, how to chop an onion, essential kitchen tools, pantry staples, basic techniques and more.

I've never seen a cookbook with so many photos, and clear ones at that. I recommend a heavy duty plexiglass book holder because this is a thick, heavy book. At $23, this one is a steal!

self-taught via this beautiful book

i love this book. i'm currently working on 3 projects at the same time using various sizes of cords--havent' finished one yet but i had to write this review because i think this book is just beautiful. i didn't see that it was japanese when i ordered it which to me is a HUGE bonus because i adore craft books from japan. they're some of the most beautiful books i own and this one is just like it. i was thrilled when it came in. there's absolutely no translation issues either which is another huge plus. it was created by some kind of huge nation-wise macrame society of japan so seems to be an authentic authority. i knew absolutely nothing about macrame but this book seems to cover it all--both small-scale jewelry pieces (sennets) and then what i was interested in--larger-scale "panels" for wall-hangings or bags, etc. lots of patterns, tons of different knots, clear directions and its beautiful to boot. so often you get a craft book and you have to imagine all the examples but with better or more interesting aesthetics? not here. the people who did this have excellent taste (i think) so its inspiring, too. i really, really love it.

Woah. New favorite.

This book showed up a lot sooner than the delivery date. I'm so happy with it, I'm really into tying hemp and what not, but I also have another macrame book besides this one. This one may be my favorite. It has tons of small patterns and ones I've never seen before. Love it! And it came without any damage, just brand new.
I'd definitely recommend this book to beginners and advanced macrame artists.

this is a great book especially for a beginner like me..the only thing i didn't like about the book is the separation of the photos for the projects and the instructions because of that i keep on scanning the book and wasting my time looking for the certain projects and how the project supposed to look like.

Experience based

This book is not trying to sell you a $13k tool chest or a $20 4-pack of soap stone that will somehow make it all happen. It's been put together by the kind of guy who get's dressed up in his best pair of jeans and t-shirt to pose next to the incredible thing he just built. Written in a way that anyone could design their own shop even if all they have is a bucket of loose 1970's no-name sockets, some scrap wood, a 1980's stripped Honda, a pile of half-rusted wrenches, and a garage like those you rent in an apartment complex. I am a pro mechanic, welder, and fabricator and my home shop is a compilation of not so pretty stuff that works great. Half the time I walk through the door of my shop and wonder how anything comes out alive! This book is designed so anyone, regardless of budget, can dream up a shop and not worry about going broke in the process. I enjoy books like this because they remind me that skill and vision trump high-dollar tools and a glistening shop that looks like the only thing that's even been run in it was a mop.

An In-depth and colorful look at workshop setup

I greatly enjoyed this in-depth look at the motorcycle workshop. Since I am setting up my own shop, I constantly pictured how the concepts put forth by the author could be applied to my work area. The author is a wealth of information, and is very good at providing some alternate methods when applicable to suit a person's personal taste. There is much more to setting up an efficient workshop than one would think, and this is obvious after the first page or two. How do you set up an efficient and effective motorcycle workshop? The author pretty much slam-dunks that question, with lots of real-life examples, some common pitfalls, and a dry but very funny sense of humor. If you really, really want to know about setting up a shop, look no further. Another excellent book in a high quality series of books.
